When Gareth was in his last year at primary school, I decided to take him on an "expedition". We would load up our bikes and travel across Lesotho, following our noses and seeking out remote places.

When I look at the photographs now, I am amazed at the weight Gareth was carrying on his old XR200 and how his skinny legs managed to hold him up.

This trip paved the way to our trans-Africa trip together when he was 17.

I took Jemma on an "expedition" of her own when she finished primary school. We returned to Lesotho and travelled for three days on Basotho ponies across the mountains. (No matter how I tried, I just haven't been able to convince her of the obvious advantages of the iron steed over nags that think they know better and fling you off onto rocky ground when you least expect it!)
